Watch the environmentalists lose their minds when they get a whiff of this 500-horse Hummer demon!
Inspiration is the mother of invention. And personally I love a mother who would condone allowing the Hummer race team to convince their fellow employee designers to go over to the GM engine room and quietly pinch a LS7 7.0L V-8 with 505 horsepower! Now why does a Hummer need a 500 horse LS7 stuffed between the offroad rails? Simple, its a stock engine. Team Hummer competes in the stock class in the Baja 1000 and other notable offroad endurance events. So a stock LS7 in a somewhat stock Hummer is straight up legit! That's 500 horses of H3R in your face!
What is also legit is the rugged appearance of the Hummer H3R. The four-inch lift kit from Rancho made it possible to strap on a set of 35-inch Mickey Thompson Bear Claw meats mated to 20-inch wheels for added ground clearance. Rotora brakes should help stop the surely to be faster Hummer. The H3R also sports a completely reworked interior featuring racing seats, window nets and enough navigation gear to fly a plane.
On the outside, H3R sports a mean look thanks to custom light and bumper bars along with a six-pack of auxilliary lighting attached. Externally mounted spare tire and jerry can coughs up some additional interior space for an 20 gallon auxilliary fuel tank. Other notables include a chunk of lexan installed in the cowl induction hood so you can get a face full of that mean LS7 breathing out of a custom exhaust that exits through four differnet ports. The hood and fenders have been retrofitted with quick release hardware so when the team thrashes one, they can just toss on another and keep on keeping on.
Hummer released the news about this special vehicle at the current SEMA 2007 where they plan to watch how folks respond to is to get a feel if this is possibly something that Hummers should produce. Let's see, would people want a 500-horsepower, LS7-powered Hummer with a Baja attitude? That's like asking if Brittney likes booze. Well duh!
